Personal Life
Kristina Mladenovic was born in Saint-Pol-Sur-Mer, France, on May 14, 1993. Coming from a family of athletes, it’s no wonder she pursued a career in sports. Her parents were both Serbian handball players, and her brother has played basketball professionally. In her free time, Mladenovic enjoys singing, cooking, and reading. She is also fluent in French, Serbian, and English.
Tennis Career
Mladenovic’s tennis career began in 2006 when she entered the junior circuit. She turned pro in 2009 and has been climbing the ranks ever since. She’s had a few significant wins under her belt, including the 2018 Australian Open doubles title and the 2019 Dubai doubles title. She’s also made it to the quarterfinals in both singles and doubles at the French Open, her home tournament.
Kristina became the first European U-14 singles champion in 2007; she defeated Russian tennis player Daria Gavrilova in two sets at the 2009 Junior Open Girls’ Singles, but sadly lost at the 2009 Junior Wimbledon in singles against Noppawan Lertcheewakarmin.
Heather Watson defeated Kristina at the 2011 Australian Open.
Although her winning streak in singles has been modest, she has been pretty great in doubles. Mladenovic won the Mixed Doubles title at the 2013 Wimbledon Championships alongside Daniel Nestor. Subsequently, in the 2014 Australian Open, along with Timea Babos, she reached the 2014 Wimbledon Doubles Final.
Family
Mladenovic comes from a tight-knit family, and they have always been very supportive of her tennis career. Her father, Dragan, has been her coach since she was young. With athletic DNA running thru his veins, Luka chose soccer; he is a midfielder player who started his career with ACBB (AC de Boulogne- Billancourt in 2013. He then played with FC Metz under 19 and currently plays for FC Metz B.
